ᔪᓂ 30 ᑕᐅᑐᕋᓐᓈᑎᑦᑎᓂᖅ - June 30th Concert

On June 30th Alianait Arts Festival will be showcasing some amazing artists and our big Collaboration. To start off with Corey Panika will take the stage! We are delighted to have Sedaa back, an lranian-Mongolian fusion group based in Germany. After Sedaa our special guests Peqatigiffik Ingertartut from Greenland, a drum dance group with ages spanning from 20's to 60's, will perform and we will finish the evening with the incredible annual Collaboration. This year’s theme is Nunavut!

Pegatigiiffik Inngertartut (Nuuk, Greenland) Peqatigiiffik Inngertartut is a collaborative drum dance group Greenland. Peqatigiiffik Inngertartut (P.I) is a small union of 11 active adult members in the age from 20 to 60, who gather once a week and are drum dancing and drum singing together.

Sedaa (Hannover, Germany) Sedaa connects traditional Mongolian music with the Orient which makes an extraordinary and fascinating sound. Master singer Nasanjargal and Naranbaatar who studied in Mongolia, abduct you together with the virtuosic Dulcimer player Davaakhuu and the Iranian Multi-instrumentalist Bahadori into one genuinely exotic world between Orient and Mongolian plain.

Corey Panika (Rankin Inlet, NU) Corey, who is from Rankin Inlet, gives his audience an uplifting and fast paced inspirational Inuktitut music experience. With a new album recently released he showcases his songs with energy and heartfelt personal experience. He has toured throughout Nunavut and Nunavik with his music and other projects including Kiviuq Returns with Qaggiavuut.

Sylvia Cloutier (Kuujjuaq, Nunavik) Sylvia brings over 17 years of experience as an award-winning performing artist, as a mentor to youth and has collaborated closely with Alianait in the past. Sylvia has collaborated with artists worldwide. In 2011 she co-wrote/directed Tulugak: Inuit Raven Stories which has been performed on the Alianait stage, the National Art Centre and others. For years, Sylvia has been working with youth in theatre and musical projects that encourage creative expression, address social issues and promote Inuit culture.

Vivi Sørensen (Nuuk, Greenland) Vivi Sørensen is an Inuk actor, theatre director, drum and mask dancer. Prior to pursuing theatre degrees, Vivi worked as an actor, journalist and television host, producer and director in Greenland. She is fluent in Kalaallisut, Danish, and English and is proficient in Inuktut and French.

Charlie Tarkirk (Salluit, Kuujjuaq) Charlie is a trilingual singer-songwriter from Nunavik. This will be his first time on the Alianait stage and we welcome his strong background in Inuktitut songwriting.

Quantum Tangle (Northwest Territories) combines the wide-ranging artistic visions of Greyson Gritt, Tiffany Ayalik and Kayley Mackay who draw from their respective Anishinaabe-Métis and Inuit backgrounds Blending old world sounds with new world flair. Proudly and boldly displaying their roots, Gritt, Ayalik and Mackay tailor their music to examine systemic racism and colonialism, while offering ways to empower marginalized groups.
