ᓇᔭ ᐱ NAJA P

(Nuuk, Kalaallit Nunaat)

Naja P is a 22 years old artist from Nuuk, Greenland. Ever since she began to talk, she's been making her own melodies and lyrics.

She released her debut EP (produced by Tûtu) 26th of May 2022  - The title of the EP is called "Naasunnguusunga" which means "When I was a little flower." Naja P has also released a single with Tûtu, a christmas song called "Orpik Ikigit". 

 

LACEY HILL

(Six Nations, Grand River Reservation)

Lacey is Oneida/Mohawk, Wolf Clan, from Six Nations of the Grand River Reservation. This singer/songwriter is also an inspirational speaker. Lacey’s debut solo album, 528 was independently produced and released in 2013, which put her on the indie-music radar and kick-started her career as a stage musician, performing her original songs.

Since Covid hit in 2020, Lacey performed for several online gigs while working on songs for her third album 528 Vol 3 The Moon due out June 2022.

 

AYSANABEE

Aysanabee is an Oji-Cree singer songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist who was first recognized performing for the Indigenous Music Awards emerging artist series in 2020. His songs and storytelling landed him a part in the Giiwewizh documentary series featuring 16 Indigneous artists from across Turtle Island. The series was directed by Sarain Fox and hosted by the International Indigenous Music Summit. He has since signed with Ishkode Records, one of the first Indigenous owned labels in the country and has played several major Canadian music festivals and opened for notable acts. He has released two singles with Ishkode and is currently working on his debut album with producer Hill Kourkoutis, the first woman to ever be never nominated for recording engineer of the year at the Junos.

 

ISÁK

(Norway)

ISÁK has been a hype in Sámi music for a long time, renowned for their energetic live shows and intense presence. Since their debut in 2017 the trio has experienced an overwhelming response in Norway, and now the “sensation from Sápmi” is finally ready to explore the rest of the world. ISÁK are considered to be a natural successor after Mari Boine, who has been known for developing yoik and modernizing Sámi music for decades. With a new and exciting fusion of traditional yoik, urban synths and a text universe that combines both English and Sámi, ISÁK continues to push the limits of Sami music. The trio consists of vocalist Ella Marie Hætta Isaksen, producer Daniel Eriksen and drummer Aleksander Kostopoulos.

 

NORDIC BRIDGES HIP HOP LAB

(Inuit Nunangat)

The Nordic Bridges Hip Hop Lab is a project that brings producers and rappers from across the circumpolar region together to showcase the hip-hop culture that is present and thriving. Artists selected this year combine traditional inspiration and rap with a result that is modern, creative and uniquely Inuk. The project was first developed at Riddu Riđđu Festivála in 2018. This year's collaboration is lead by Uyarakq and features Andachan, Da Bartali Crew, Kimmernaq, Shauna Seeteenak, Keith Irgnaut, FXCKMR, 666god, HH Poulsen, and Silla of Silla and Rise. 


666GOD (Iqaluit)

Thomas Lambe - known as 666god - is a rapper/producer from Iqaluit, Nunavut. Originally from Grise Fiord - the northernmost community in Canada - he spent his childhood in Iqaluit. A self taught musician who is always working to improve his technical and artistic skills, all the while mastering the rules of the music industry in the process. 666god’s music blends cutting-edge beats with a unique style of laidback flows and spitfire rhymes. He seamlessly mixes urban and pop culture with elements of being raised in Nunavut. 666god frequently collaborates with artists all over.

ANDACHAN (Sisimiut, Kalaallit Nunaat)

Andachan is a Greenlandic musician, guitarist, DJ/producer from Sisimiut. He has released his first EDM/Dubstep album back in 2019. Now has 7 singles, 2 albums and 2 EP Albums. He has a band called FINNi, and produced a Koda award winning album called FINNi -Qanormita Ippa !?

DA BARTALI CREW (Nuuk, Kalaallit Nunaat)

Da Bartali Crew is a dynamic live band, adapting themselves to their current environment and interacting with local musicians, singers and rappers wherever they go in the world. Their music is shaped and performed together with the guests on the stage, with a fine light show. They call their musical style Live Electro, which consists of everything from casual ambient listening music to electro house dance music and sometimes playful, circus-like, off-beat rhythms. DBC also play large, atmospheric, ambient pieces that call forth visions of giant waterfalls or the earth from a bird’s-eye view. Their music is colourfully painted with both large brush strokes and fine lines, and the rhythm section seeks anything other than what could be perceived as normal, yet remains in line with human rhythms.

FXCKMR (Iqaluit)

FxckMr AKA LxveMr from Iqaluit, Nunavut, is a versatile singer & hip hop artist who's music ranges from smooth jazz-rap love songs, to smooth punchline heavy club tracks, to high energy heavy metal rap. Mister performs solo as well as with music partner 666god.

HH SUERSAQ (Nuuk, Kalaallit Nunaat) 

HH Suersaq was one of the first to graduate from the National Acting School of Greenland in 2014. The way he gets in tune with his voice and body makes him a marvelous actor. For this reason, he has been in numerous theater plays, such as Jappa (Jeppe on the Mountain), Karius & Baktus, Homo Sapienne, Angutivik, and children's theater plays A-I-U, Juulimaaq - Nannullu Anersaava, and among others Sofus Siggusmund. In addition, he mastered the art of throat singing, and he, has performed at events such as the Arctic Winter Games held in Nuuk in 2016.

KEITH IRGNAUT (Igloolik)

Keith Irngaut is a rapper and circus performer from Igloolik “I make music since I started thinking of everyone who has been alone, depressed or bullied,  and they have forgotten how to be part of love or caring. That's why my music is called Nagliginiq.”

KIMMERNAQ KJELDSEN (Aasiaat, Kalaallit Nunaat)

Kimmernaq Kjeldsen is a renowed singer and actress from Aasiaat, Greenland. She last performed at the festival in 2014 with her second album Uani, in the following years she has be involved with the production of On Thin Ice, as well as appearing frequently on television and sharing the stage with Da Bartali Crew.

SHAUNA SEETEENAK (Baker Lake)

Shauna Seeteenak is an Inuk hip-hop artist and political rapper, originally from Baker Lake, Nunavut. From the age of ten, she discovered that through song there was a way to express her emotions beyond talking and create a shared experience through her music. Currently based in Iqaluit, Shauna has made a name for herself in the industry and has collaborated with Inuit and international artists. She is a genuine storyteller and centers her music on the truths and challenges facing Inuit, including mental health, sobriety, breaking stereotypes, overcoming barriers, surviving the north, and trying to heal. Shauna teamed up with the Iqaluit-based record label, Hitmakerz, to produce her debut album, Therapy Sessions, which was released in August of 2021

SILLA (Kimmirut/Igloolik)

Silla blends Inuit throat-singing and futuristic dance floor beats. Silla is what surrounds us; it is what connects us to our land, to the moon, sun and stars, the ocean and the air we breathe. In respecting and honouring the need to preserve Inuit culture and paying homage to our land and the strong connection to its spirituality, they experience and perform the sounds of traditional and contemporary throat songs. Silla is the Nunavut-half of the Juno nominated group Silla and Rise, performing for the first time live with the Alianait Arts Festival.

UYARAKQ (Nuuk, Kalaallit Nunaat)

Aqqalu Berthelsen, also known as Uyarakq, was born in Nuuk, Greenland in the mid 80s. He is a self taught music producer/composer and DJ with a background in metal music. Growing up in Uummannaq, Northern Greenland and Nuuk, the capital, has played a large role in shaping him to be a versatile musician between two worlds. He is currently doing a lot of work in the Indigenous circumpolar hip hop and rap scene with a foot in two continents, the North American arctic and the European arctic. He won a Greenlandic Koda Award in 2015 for his solo album Raatiu Nukik (2014) and was nominated for Nordic Councils Music Prize in 2016 for the collaborative work Kunngiitsuuffik (2015) alongside the Greenlandic rapper Peand-eL. He is now living in Inari, Northern Finland/Sápmi.
