Ugiuvak Drummers & Dancers
(Alaska)
Ugiuvak Drummers and Dancers have been dancing since time immemorial. We learned to dance from our elders. Elders in our dance group learned from elders who came before them, whom did not speak any English. Together, we dance the dances of our ancestors. Our drums are made traditionally, out of walrus skin stomachs.
DANZ’AFRO
(Iqaluit)
DANZ'AFRO is a group created in 2020 the objectives to promote, perpetuate, and popularize traditional dance from African cultures; to encourage, promote and support healthy lifestyle through dance programs and events that provide children and adults of all ages and abilities, fun and exercise for both mind and body and to foster community spirit and celebrate the embodied cultures of traditional dances from Africa.
This Way North
(Australia)
Two-piece indie pop-rock band This Way North are heading somewhere exciting, and the music they create makes you want to join these two van-lifers on the road. Full of rapturous nostalgia, This Way North’s music takes you from moody, tremolo-tinged heart-tuggers to pounding driving alt-psych rock through a sonic landscape of reverb-soaked guitars and rolling rhythms. With odes to 90’s rock sitting on air- tight grooves and full, cinematic spaciousness, This Way North’s music is a portal to summer festivals, their love affair with the road, and an open invitation to turn up the volume and let loose.
INUK
(Kalaallit Nunaat)
Inuk is one of the most popular groups in Greenland. They perform songs that will be stuck in your head for days. The melodies are melancholic yet happy in a pop, rock and indie genre. This is their second time performing at the Alianait Arts festival, this year with rap artist KimOJax.
